So ... Transformers....

Went to see "Transformers" last night. Most definitely a Michael Bay film, and most definitely two hours of blowing shit up. And most definitely worth it. I understand that sequels are in the works. This pleases me, so long as they don't try too hard.
Thoughts:
1. Peter Cullen needed to be tagged in the credits ("Starring Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime"). To hell with Jon Voight, Cullen's who we came to see... er, hear.
2. John Tuturro does a fairly decent Al Pacino impersonation.
3. Shia LeBeouf seems to be following Kurt Russell's tradition of starting in Disney films and graduating to action movies.
4. What happened to the Product-Placement Decepticons? The Moutain Dewbot and the car with the killer steering wheel? They sort of bungee in and out of the movie.
5. More importantly, what happened to Barricade (the cop car Decepticon)? The body count of the final fight is as follows:
a. Bonecrusher (Forklift Truck) - Decapitated by Optimus Prime
b. Devastator (Tank) - Blown to ratshit by the Army Rangers and Bumblebee
c. Blackout (Helicopter) - Blown to ratshit by Army Rangers and Raptor airstrike
d. Starscream - Escaped into orbit, as shown during credits
e. Jazz - Torn in half by Megatron
f. Megatron - Messed up by the All Spark
So, what happened to Barricade?
I enjoyed the movie. If you haven't seen it, and like summer "things go boom" movies, then I recommend it.

Date: 2007-07-11 02:17 pm (UTC)I didn't know Peter Cullen was going to be the voice of Prime until yesterday when friend of mine told me, and I got all sorts of excited. And I agree that he needs to be given more prominence in the credits...hell, even Jon Voight said he understood that the robots were what the folks were there to see.
And, yeah, Barricade DID sort of get lost in the shuffle. And I doubt we'll see the product-placement Decepticons again; they served their purpose. :)
Be prepared for a sequel, and I'm sure Megatron will be back. Speaking of him, did you recognize his voice?
