Mar. 2nd, 2009 03:43 pm... in 1836, in the town of Washington-on-the-Brazos, a meeting of 41 elected delegates adopted the Texas Declaration of Independence, establishing the Republic of Texas and freedom from Mexico. Four days later, during the drafting of the Texas Constitution, the Convention received a message from Commander William B. Travis, begging for reinforcements and supplies for the besieged forces at the Alamo.
