'S been a while....

Howdy folks. I've been a bit busy for about a month now, and noticing that some of the sites I'm inclined to waste time at work on have been blocked by the boys in IT. Ergo, not much in the way of daytime access of LJ will be happening for the time being. Look for me to respond in the evening hours.
Work has been a bitch the last four or five weeks. A steady avalanche of crap with proposals coming in with short deadlines cutting off the ones with longer deadlines. It makes it difficult to do much of anything but hit them in order. Frankly, I think we need a fourth writer, but that's unlikely to happen anytime soon. According to the boss, there's no room in the budget. I question their logic, given that if we burn out and quit/get fired, they're going to have to spend the resources to find new people and train them, and with the steady flow of proposals not lessening, it's going to make it difficult to keep new folks without burning them out too. Better to hire one new person when there's three of us to help train him or her.
The boss is getting the graphics/database person to run some of the preliminary steps on some of the proposals. This is a good thing, but that little paranoid part of my headspace pipes up occasionally with, "She can take your place and you're going to get FIRED!!" Usually I shut it up by throwing a proposal at it. Yes, I have an issue with job performance. Chalk it up to getting fired from my last downtown job and assorted other stress.
We had Friday off, because it was Good Friday (if the Stock Market is closed, then we get the day off). It was quite relaxing to have a three-day weekend, and I didn't pretty much nothing. I was a little productive; I finally got my driver's license renewed (it expired in November), and I unpacked some books. Aside from that, I did little in the way of productive activity. And I liked it.
The weekend before that was also nice, since
badnoodles was in town. Love you, sweetheart.
longshot14,
phoenixcouer,
jenmarie, and
salembroomrider are all moving to Austin this week. Not all together - wouldn't that be an interesting house - but in respective pairing, with the Beanlette going with the appropriate pair. It'll make weekends a lot less interesting to have those folks around, but it will inspire me, I think, to try to head down that way more often. In theory.
Not much else to talk about right now. Life goes on. Tune in next episode, when we hear Our Hero say, "Now where'd I put that fnord?"
