Work

So, I am informed by my boss of the following things:

a.) The office is open from 7 am to 6 pm.
b.) Any flex-time type maneuvering for appointments and the like must be made up
during the same week.
c.) Any day where I work more than 6 hours, I must take at least half an hour for
lunch. I can still work, but I won't get paid for it. Evidently there's a
federal law in there somewhere.

Given these facts, and given that this morning was spent running between Carrollton and Grand Prairie taking care of things that I made appointments for before I knew I had a job (four hours between interview and job offer ... shortest turnover ever!), I ended up working about 5.75 hours today. So, no lunch. No problem there. However, if you do the math:

8 hours - 5.75 hours = 2.25 hours

So I'm 2.25 hours short. Not a good thing, but I can work that out on Friday, right? Well, to do further math:

8 hours of work on Friday + 2.25 hours make-up work = 10.25 hours

7 am to 6 pm is 11 hours. Minus half an hour for mandatory lunch leaves 10.5 hours. Which has me arriving at work at 7 am and leaving at 5:45 pm, or arriving at 7:15 am and leaving at 6 pm.

Now, I like this job, but tomorrow's gonna suck. It is indeed fortunate that the annoying bitch receptionist from "Office Space" doesn't appear to work at this particular department of Verizon. Otherwise, the 10 o'clock news might have a copter's-eye view of me driving my Camry through the glass windows of the building and doing donuts through cubicles.

Hmmm ... that's not a bad idea, now that I think of it. Must save it for an "In Case of Lumbergh" emergency.

(Psst ... people who are lost should go rent "Office Space." You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll understand why it's good to be a gangsta.)
