I'm going to be having words with our City Council and the Sheriff about the training our our officers. The windows above my desk are gone. Completely. I don't want to think about what the back wall of the building looks like. There are bullets in my bookcases. And the road is filled with zombies.
There, I said it. The Z word. The cops fired at center of mass, like they were supposed to. The zombies fell down, and then got back up. Some of them lost bits and pieces in the process it looks like. A few got popped in the head, and they went down. The cops panicked, but to their credit, they held their ground for a few minutes.
And then the jumpy cop got grabbed.
There had to be a zombie in one of the apartments, drawn out by the gunfire. He was right in front of it and it grabbed him from behind. His partner didn't do anything; it was like he froze, just leaning against a fence. The cop's scream was the worst thing I've heard, high pitched and full of terror. The scream of a dying animal.
The cops flipped out and started shooting wildly. Bullets went into windows all over the place. Several went towards me; I think they might have seen a shadow and reacted to the motion. I'm not sure what happened; I think I rabbitted, but I don't really have any memory of it. I ended up in the bathtub, cowering with my hands over my head, like there was a tornado.
The gunfire was steady for a few minutes, and then tapered off. I heard screaming, squealing tires, crunching metal. When I finally raised my head, it was silent, except for the moans. I took a few minutes to make sure I wasn't bleeding, and then tried to get back into the study. I had to put some shoes on because of the broken glass.
I don't think any of the cops made it out. I could see two of the cruisers, still parked with their doors open. The third had smashed past the parked car and tried to get away. I can't see it without sticking my head out, and I'm NOT doing that. I can see bodies in uniforms being chewed on. And I can see a whole shitload of zombies. They're still drifting towards the scene, coming past my apartment, drawn by the noise. Jumpy cop's partner, the one who wasn't doing anything when Jumpy was getting jumped, seems to be one of them. Whatever is causing this, it works fast.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do. This thing is bad. According to

Date: 2008-06-13 08:25 pm (UTC)I'm huddled here in a convenience store in Anaheim, almost to the Park. People here still think there's some sort of natural disaster or disease outbreak occuring; they don't realize the direness of the situation....
