So, tonight the local PBS station broadcast the Mark Twain Award Ceremony, honoring Bill Cosby as the twelfth winner. The Mark Twain Award is the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts award for humor, and previous winners include Richard Pryor, Jonathan Winters, Carl Reiner, and (last year, posthumously) George Carlin. For almost 90 minutes, comedians and civil rights crusaders all spoke of how Bill Cosby had made his impact on their lives and on American culture, and clips were shown from many of his shows and concerts. Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfeld both spoke of their first encounters with Cosby and how he had helped shape their careers. But for me, this was how I met Bill Cosby:
